It sits above the well-regarded 1000XM6 in Sony’s lineup — more premium materials, refined tuning, and exclusive design touches — at a price that reflects the luxury positioning. After two weeks of daily use spanning commutes, flights, and office sessions, here is the complete review.

Design and Build: Luxury Materials Make a Real Difference

The ColleXion’s most immediately apparent upgrade over the 1000XM6 is the build quality. Soft vegan leather replaces the standard synthetic material on the earcups and headband, with metal accents on the adjustment sliders and earcup housings replacing plastic. The effect is that it feels and looks genuinely premium in a way that the XM6, for all its excellence, does not quite achieve.

The colour options — Deep Sea Blue and Midnight Black — are more restrained and sophisticated than the consumer colours typically offered on the standard 1000X range. This is a headphone designed to look appropriate in a boardroom or business lounge, not just on a commute.

Weight is essentially unchanged from the XM6 at 254g — Sony has added material quality without adding bulk. Folding mechanism and carry case are improved; the ColleXion comes in a rigid semi-hard case rather than the soft pouch of the base XM6, which provides meaningfully better travel protection.

Noise Cancellation: Still the Benchmark

The 1000X series has defined premium ANC for a reason, and The ColleXion continues that tradition. Low-frequency noise cancellation — aircraft cabin rumble, train vibration, air conditioning hum — is exceptional. The QN3 processor and updated microphone array reduce these sounds to near-inaudible levels, allowing you to focus on work or music in environments that would otherwise be distracting.

Adaptive Sound Control adjusts ANC intensity automatically based on detected environment — stronger on a plane, lighter in an office, transparent mode when you stop moving. The ColleXion is the right choice if: you want the best-looking, best-feeling Sony headphones ever made; the premium materials and case justify the ₹7,000 premium to you; or you are buying as a gift and the packaging and presentation matter. It is also the choice for heavy travellers who will genuinely use the improved carry case.

The standard 1000XM6 at ₹32,990 is the right choice if: the ANC performance and sound quality (which are very similar between the two models) are your primary criteria and the material upgrade does not justify the price difference for your use case.

Both are outstanding purchases. Neither Bose QuietComfort Ultra nor Apple AirPods Max match the combination of ANC depth, sound customisability, battery life, and India pricing that Sony achieves with either model.
